Kaihen Sentai Alchemyranger

This is another redo of one of my earliest teams from when I first got into pixelling heroes and what not. The originals were made more than four years ago! So it was about time I got to giving them a makeover.

Their name is Kaihen Sentai Alchemyranger (改変戦隊アルケミーレンジャー) literally "Alteration Corps Alchemyranger". I chose to use 'corps' instead of 'task force for 戦隊/Sentai because I like the militaristic feel to corps. Just a personal thing.

The heroes are alchemists. Alchemy was kind of a precurssor to modern chemistry, in the sense that it explored the nature of elements. Alchemy involved transforming matter into other elements, making metals into gold, finding a kind of heal-all potion, and a bunch of other magical-ish things. These guys are part of a secret order of alchemists that have long since perfected alchemy through scientific means. While their feats may look magical to normal humans, they are not magicians. They must need something to change in order to get something in return, i.e. Laws of Conservation of Mass and Energy. So if they want five pounds of bullets, they need five pounds of some other material. Their feats of alchemy are performed by using small 'Alchemy STAMPS' on an object. These then transform the object into what is needed. The most common uses are turning their clothing into their fighting ranger suits, metals to weapons, and air to smoke to conceal themselves. The STAMPS have a bunch of other purposes that would be exploited in toy form in the 'get em all' type form like recent riders' rings, switches, medals, etc. Purposefully, STAMPS is an acronym for the elemental theme the rangers: silver, tin, antimony, mercury, phosphorus, and sulfur.

The helmets were the most fun part of the design for me. I took page out of Shinkenger's design book, so to speak. The visors are based on each ranger's elemental symbol used in medieval alchemy. They're not perfect representations of those symbols, i.e. closed shapes instead of open circles or triangles, but the basic feel is there.

Their suits are meant to look kind of like Medieval tunics. The curves are just there for visual purposes, but also correspond to rank. Red 5, Black 4, Yellow 3, Blue 2, Pink 1, Wonder 6. The center chest symbol is an interpretation of the symbol used for various alchemic practices.
